Autumn Prayer

Autumn Prayer

We stand in awe of your creation, magnificent Lord.  We gaze at the autumn leaves and the indicators of change that is coming.  We begin to think about the winter ahead and make preparations for the differences that come with changing seasons.

Help us to turn our hearts to you, Lord.  As we begin to settle down into more predictable routines, let us always be mindful of the needs of others.  Amen.

Invitation to Trust

Invitation to Trust

When dangers invade our sense of safety
and we wonder if our Redeemer cares,
we hear the invitation:
Be at peace. Be calm.

When we face job loss and financial downturns,
and our sense of security is shaky,
we hear the invitation:
Be at peace. Be calm.

When our congregations experience distress, conflict,
and loss of significant leadership,
we hear the invitation:
Be at peace. Be calm.

When controversial issues and rigidity of spirit
threaten to tear at the very fabric of the faith community,
we hear the invitation:
Be at peace. Be calm.

When our lives feel chaotic and desolate
because of illness or sorrow,
we hear the invitation:
Be at peace. Be calm.

Help us to know, O God,
that the one who calmed the dangerous sea is present with us,
cares for us, and can calm the stormy waters of our lives.
Help us to trust more fully and more deeply in you.
We pray in the name of Jesus, who invites us to be at peace.

Amen.

Prayer of Confession (John 20)

Prayer of Confession (John 20)

Merciful God, we don’t always recognize Christ, even when we are looking directly at your Incarnate Love.

We cling to our assumptions about how life on earth should unfold, forgetting that life in your realm shatters those expectations.

Forgive us when we go through our daily routine, forgetting to look for the Risen One.

Forgive us when coming to worship is more about seeing our friends than it is about encountering you and our Resurrected Lord.

Open our eyes and our hearts, O God, to the full awareness of your presence with us, in each and every moment of our lives.

We pray in the name of the Christ who is alive!

Alleluia and Amen.

Prayer for Unity by Champ Traylor

Prayer for Unity by Champ Traylor

Our Father, we thank You for the privilege of being together at this time and in this place.

As Your people, we pray that Your love will unite us into a fellowship of discovery.

Cleanse us of everything that would sap our strength for togetherness.

Unravel the knots in our spirits.

Cleanse the error of our minds.

Free us from the bondage of our negative imaginations.

Break down the barriers that sometimes keep us apart and cause us to drift along without a dream.

As we go from here, explode in us new possibilities for service.

Kindle within us the fires of Your compassion so that we may not wait too long to learn to love.

May we be a people with loving purposes…

Reaching out…

Breaking walls…

Building bridges…

Let us be Your alleluia in a joyless, fragmented world.

In the name of our Lord, we pray

Amen

Prayer of St. Patrick

Prayer of St. Patrick

As I arise today,

may the strength of God pilot me,

the power of God uphold me,

the wisdom of God guide me.

May the eye of God look before me,

the ear of God hear me,

the word of God speak for me.

May the hand of God protect me,

the way of God lie before me,

the shield of God defend me,

the host of God save me.

May Christ shield me today.

Christ with me, Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ in me, Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit,

Christ when I stand,

Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,

Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,

Christ in every eye that sees me,

Christ in every ear that hears me.

Amen.
